The files and executables that make up OverTime are kept in 4
directories. These files are explained below.
In the directory $OV_BIN (/opt/OV/bin in UNIX OR \OpenView\bin in
Windows) are the following executables: devupd, otadd, otcullall, otdel,
ottgts. $OV_BIN is also where you will find overtime.cfg the master
configuration file for OverTime. Each of these files are explained below.
The directory $OV_REGISTRATION\C (/etc/opt/OV/share/registration/C for
UNIX or \OpenView\registration\C for Windows) holds the OverTime registration
file, overtime.reg. This controls where OpenView places the OverTime menu items
and what each of these items executes.
The CGI directory for the web server on the host machine holds the
executables devdtl and devmst (and UNIX also has overtime.cfg symbolically
linked to $OV_BIN/overtime.cfg).
The last directory is where ever the user decides to store the OverTime
information. This directory (let's call is \OverTime - which is the default
under NT and \var\opt\OverTime is the Unix default) has at least 2
subdirectories, cfgs and data. \OverTime\cfgs holds the configuration
information held in files with names like device1.mst. \OverTime\data holds
directories, where each directory name is the SNMP System Name of the device
being monitored. Within each of these directories are RRD files that house the
data for that device.
